The Cornwall Inn, PA dates back to the American Revolution. The first millionaire in Pennsylvania and one of the wealthiest men in the United States, the iron baron and tycoon, Robert Coleman, built the inn in the late 1700’s. Mr. Coleman owned the neighboring Cornwall Iron Furnace. The Cornwall Iron Furnace was the location of the Official Ironmaster for the 13 Original Colonies during the American Revolution, and the site of one of the largest iron ore mines in the world. It is open for tours throughout the year. During its history the Cornwall Inn has served as the US Post Office, train station and depot, general store and jailhouse for the Cornwall Iron Furnace and surrounding area. In fact the original iron trestle bridge that served America’s expansion sits ”retired” above the property to this day and is a dramatic reminder of the Cornwall Inn’s history.
For decades, the building sat uncared for and fell into a state of disrepair and abandon. In 1999 the current owner and innkeeper, Lynee Porter, had a vision for this Coleman property. She spent every day for the next two years returning the property to the charm and feel of when the Coleman family operated the business in the late 1700’s. The newly restored Cornwall Inn’s first guest arrived in 2001.
Lynee Porter and her staff take great care to make sure that your experience at the Cornwall Inn will be both memorable and relaxing. Lynee and the staff at the Cornwall Inn want your stay to be so unforgettable that you will return again and again. They are the proud stewards of this grand piece of American history and are committed to upholding its proud traditions, history and hospitality. They are here to provide you with uncommon service and hospitality deserving of a 5-star rated Inn.
